A 50-year-old woman was injured after Pakistani troops violated the ceasefire and opened fire at Indian security forces in Poonch district early on Sunday morning, The Hindu reported. A police official said, “Kasim Jan, a resident of Shahpur village, was injured when she was hit by the splinters of a mortar shell fired from across the border.”
Indian forces retaliated after the Pakistani Army opened fire at them. Defence ministry spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Manish Mehta said the Pakistani troops resorted to small arms fire. However, no casualties were reported.
The ceasefire violation took place less than 12 hours after a grenade blast injured more than 10 people, including pilgrims of Baba Budha Amarnath Yatra, in the district. According to The Times of India, two of the injured were in critical condition. Two people have been detained while the third suspect is said to be on the run, reported NDTV.
