India crashed out in the quarter-finals of the Olympics men's hockey event with a resurgent Belgium coming from behind to win 3-1 after PR Sreejesh's men had taken a 1-0 lead in the first quarter. Sebastien Dockier scored a brace and a goal from Tom Boon sealed the game to give Belgium a 3-1 win.
India were chasing their first semi-final appearance in the Olympics in 36 years and proceedings were on course when Akashdeep Singh scored in the first quarter against the run of play. Sardar Singh was rampant and dominated the midfield, stopping the Belgian attackers.
However, Belgium battled hard and equalised through Dockier just a few minutes into the second quarter. Boon then sealed India's fate with a third goal. India removed their goalkeeper Sreejesh for the last 10 minutes, but the robust Belgians held on for a berth in the semi-finals.
