In one of the biggest upsets for India at the Rio Olympics, world No. 5 badminton player Saina Nehwal crashed out of the women's singles tournament on Sunday. Nehwal lost her Group G encounter against world No. 61 Marija Ulitina of Ukraine 18-21 19-21. Both players had won their respective opening matches, which meant that only one of them could progress to the next round from the group. Nehwal, who won the bronze at the London Olympics, was one of India's biggest medal contenders and her exit leaves the onus on the only other Indian woman left in the singles tournament, PV Sindhu, who plays later on Sunday.
