Delhi Congress spokesperson and President Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee on Saturday lodged a complaint with Delhi Police after she was sexually harassed online. Mukherjee identified her abuser in a post on Facebook and shared screenshots of the comments he had made about her. The post was shared by several hundreds of others, The Hindu reported.
Anyesh Roy, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crime, said, “We are in the process of registering a case under the IT Act and relevant sections of the IPC. We are investigating the matter.”
Mukherjee told The Hindu, “He (her harasser) sent me the vulgar messages through Facebook messenger on Friday. My first reaction was to block him, but I saved the screenshots as I did not want him to get away.” She added that she hoped his family and friends found out about his actions and that she spoke up about the incident because her silence would only “encourage him”.
