Indian shooter Gurpreet Singh came agonisingly close to winning a spot in the final but fell short by just two points in the 25 metre rapid fire pistol event, finishing seventh with a total score of 581/600 over two days. The top six progressed to the final stage of the competition.
Singh was placed 10th on the first day of the qualifying phase on Friday, but made a terrific comeback on Saturday. He shot 97, 98 and 97 in the three stages on Saturday and finished with 581/600 but fell just two points short of the sixth-placed Leuris Popo from Cuba.
Only five points separated France's Jean Quiquampoix at third, who finished with 586 points and Singh. Christian Reitz of Germany finished on top, with a score of 591/600.
