It’s a video titled Azaadi Celebrations. No, it doesn’t have anything to Independence Day Celebrations. Nor with the student movement across the country demanding “azaadi”.
No, it’s a single man filmed (vertically) on a mobile phone camera. It’s set to the Kishore Kumar ditty Meri Biwi Maike Chali Gayi from the Jeetendra-Sridevi starring Akalmand (1984) and the video is subtitled “Wife home going party”.
Like the video of the women laughing while wearing a Chewbacca mask in May, this “azaadi” video, which features the man dancing very very energetically, has gone viral and had well over a million views at last count. The channel it has been uploaded by only has 1,482 subscribers and only has seven videos, two of which, Pakistan Defence Minister’s Pants go down in Public and Young Couple Romance Mid Traffic Jam, have also been seen over a million times. Both appeal to the lowest common denominator.
The theme behind bezzati.com, which seems to be inspired by Vidya Balan’s famous entertainment, entertainment, entertainment" speech from The Dirty Picture, is “No Politics! No Religion! No Hatred! Only Entertainment! Only Laughter! & Lots of FUN ...”
Last year, US comedian Jerry Seinfeld, much to ire of YouTube creators everywhere said, “We have a giant garbage can called YouTube for user-generated content”
These videos prove that perhaps the comedian was onto something.
