FILM Animal Human Nature Continuum at Osianama at Liberty
Arts organisation Osians is screening a series of movies that touch upon the relationship between man and nature. Two recent Indian documentaries will be shown on Friday, from 5 pm. Barnali Ray Shukla’s Liquid Borders (2015), in Hindi, Bengali and Tamil, is about India’s riverine borders. Renjith Kuzhur’s 18 Feet (2015), in Malayalam, traces memories of caste injustice through the journey of Kerala folk music band Karinthalakoottam; the title refers to the distance that Dalits were to keep between upper castes and themselves. On Saturday, at 8 pm, Hayao Miyazaki’s Japanese animation classic Spirited Away, about a ten-year-old girl’s tryst with the spirit world, will be screened an on Sunday, at 6.30 pm, Luc Jacquet’s Oscar-winning 2005 English documentary March of the Penguins, which follows Antarctica’s emperor penguins, will be shown. FILM Marathi Cinema Now at Godrej India Culture Lab
The three-day festival of contemporary Marathi cinema, put together by the Godrej India Culture Lab and 1018mb, will feature six feature-length and two short films. The movies that will be screened include Shivaji Lotan Patil’s Halal (2016), which looks at the practice of marriage in a Muslim family (Friday at 5.30 pm); Makarand Mane’sRingan/The Quest (2015), in which a farmer crippled by debt and his son travel to the temple town of Pandharpur in search of ways to pay off the loan (Saturday at 5.30 pm); and Mahesh Manjrekar’s Natsamrat/The Emperor of Theatre (2016), in which Nana Patekar plays an aged Shakesperean theatre actor struggling to cope with retirement (Sunday at 4.30 pm). MUSIC Azax Syndrom + Raavas + Fractal Dimension + Taalomba at Blue Frog

A collaboration between the organisers of the Appa Art Festival, which was held in April, and Bandra performing arts venue The Mumbai Assembly, this three-day event will feature art exhibitions such as the adult-themed Triple X by musician Func aka Randolph Correia, Curiosa – The Immortals Within by Kunal Naik and a set of paintings by co-organiser Karthikeyan Ramachandran’s father K. N. Ramchandran.
