The Human Resource Development Ministry may soon make it mandatory for all products sold in the country to carry labels and instructions in Hindi as well as one regional language, reported The Indian Express. The ministry helmed by Prakash Javadekar had set up a committee to look into ways the Centre can promote Hindi. The 17-member panel came up with the idea, among other suggestions forwarded to the ministry.
If the National Democratic Alliance accepts the recommendations, brochures and operating manuals of all consumer goods including medicines and electronic equipment will have a version in Hindi. According to the newspaper's report, the panel has suggested a three-language communication process between the Centre and states. Former JNU pro vice-chancellor Kapil Kapoor was the head of the committee, which comprises Kiran Saluja, a former Delhi University professor and all-India president of Sanskrit Bharati Chand , among others.
