The Bhiwandi Nizampur City Municipal Corporation had declared Mahadev Building in Bhiwandi's Shashtri Nagar dangerous. It had served the building a number of evacuation notices and had cut off electricity and water supplies the day before the collapse, according to The Indian Express. The civic body had also declared Kabir Seth Chawl dangerous, before it collapsed and killed eight people on July 31.
Fire department workers and National Disaster Response Force personnel were involved in a 12-hour rescue operation. While two bodies were recovered soon after the incident, which took place around 7.30 am on Sunday, the other six were pulled out several hours later.
