Three juveniles were detained by police on Sunday after reportedly sexually assaulting a 23-year-old pregnant woman from Myanmar. The incident took place in Sitapuri Extension, Dabri, in the capital on Friday night when the woman was walking home with her husband.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Surender Kumar told The Indian Express that the three accused touched the 23-year-old inappropriately and one threw a brick at her head when she protested. A case has been filed under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and 34 (common intention). Kumar also said, “The three accused minors were presented before the Juvenile Justice Board Friday. Due to the nature of the crime, we have requested the court to try the 16-year-old and 17-year-old as adults.”
Reports said the woman moved to India in 2009 and has been working in a factory in Delhi.
