A two-storey building collapsed in Hanuman Tekri, Bhiwandi, on the outskirts of Mumbai early on Sunday morning. At least two people have been reported dead while several are feared trapped under debris. Reports have said four people were rescued while at least seven or eight more remain trapped.
Sunil Zalke, public relation officer of Bhiwandi told Hindustan Times, “The building had three families and we fear ten to twelve people are trapped under the rubble. The structure was in extremely dangerous condition.” He added that an evacuation notice was served to the building and its water connection had also been cut off earlier. The owner of the building also lived there.
Fire department workers and National Disaster Response Force personnel are working at the site to rescue those trapped under debris. The incident comes after another building collapsed in Bhiwandi on July 31, in which eight people died.
