A magisterial court in Guwahati on Saturday summoned Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi in connection with a criminal defamation case for his remarks against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. He has been asked to appear before a lower court in Kamrup on September 21, PTI reported.
On December 12, 2015, the Congress vice president was supposed to visit the Barpeta Satra, a 16th century Vaishnavite monastery in Assam. He later claimed that the RSS stopped him from entering the monastery, reported NDTV. RSS volunteer Anjan Bora who had filed the criminal defamation case said this was a lie and an attempt to defame the organisation. Bora also said that Gandhi never visited the place and instead went on a padyatra.
