At the 19th China-Beijing International High-Tech Expo in May 2016, Beijing-based Transit Explore Bus unveiled a prototype of their elevated bus idea, a bus that goes above traffic, thereby easing road congestion and pollution. A similar concept, called the "3D Express Coach" was unveiled earlier at the Expo in 2010.
And now, 40 years after such an idea was conceived, humanity is another step closer to seeing an elevated bus become a reality. The video above shows the 2m-high 21m-long bus, which can carry 300 passengers, ride over cars (very very slowly).
The vehicle is expected to run 60km an hour and can do the work of 40 buses. While provinces within China and cities around the world are showing interest, it is going to be a (very) long time till the elevated bus begins to get used widely.
The other transport idea that is being tested, and has been getting huge interest is the Hyperloop, which is based on an idea by Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Hyperloop involves the transport of goods and people through tubes at very high speeds. At a test this May, Hyperloop achieved a speed of 116 mph.
