FILM Brief Life of Insects + Di Madre in Figlia at India Habitat Centre
Two socio-cultural documentaries will be screened. Tarun Bhartiya’s Brief Life of Insects (2015) is set among a group of farmers on the Assam-Meghalaya border who sing as they thresh paddy. Andrea Zambelli’s Di Madre in Figlia/From Mother to Daughter (2008), in Italian with English subtitles, is about the Mondine of Novi, a choir of women in which the older members are former rice weeders whose songs took shape as they worked.
