Where else could Hrithik Roshan have learnt the superhero skills that he displayed in Krrish? From the 1986 film Bhagwaan Dada, of course, in which Roshan plays Rajinikanth’s 12-year-old adopted son.
The film was an in-house affair – it was produced by Rakesh Roshan and directed by his father-in-law J Om Prakash. Roshan Sr also acted in the movie, and the score was composed by Rajesh Roshan. The cast included Sridevi, Tina Munim, Danny Denzongpa – and Roshan Jr.
Rajinikanth plays a reformed criminal named Bhagwaan, who transforms a crime-infested slum into a peaceful neighbourhood called Shantinagar. His efforts earn him the honorific title of a benevolent Dada (brother). He adopts the orphan Govinda (Hrithik Roshan), who takes after his father.
A fan-made montage of scenes captures some of the highlights of the father-son relationship in the movie. Roshan displays his penchant for dance and fights the goons in gravity-defying stunts, traits he shares with his on-screen dad.
