It’s the world’s most alarming meeting. Once a year, 15 people gather around a table in Chicago to discuss the end of the world. These experts, brought together by the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists, take into account various factors that threaten the world’s survival. After reviewing the state of affairs, they symbolically demonstrate their findings by way of a clock, the Doomsday Clock. The nearer to midnight the minute hand, the closer the world is to destruction. As things stand, the world is just three minutes away from destruction – the closest it has ever been.
This episode of The Intersection takes a look at the inner workings of the Doomsday Clock, and how climate change is driving us closer to destruction.
