Army thwarts move in Jammu and Kashmir
The army on Friday claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid on the Line of Control in North Kashmir’s Gurez sector and killed five infiltrators. The operation continued through the day as army continued to act on information about the presence of more militants in the forest area of Kanzelwan Gurez. Five rifles, one RPG and one UBGL were recovered from the slain militants. Officials said that last night army patrol guarding the LoC noticed movement of militants on the border. The militants were allowed to enter inside the Gurez and then cordon was established around them. When the militants opened fire, the troops retaliated.
Mamata says Netaji did not die in 1945 air crash
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee said on Friday that she believes Subhas Chandra Bose was alive after 1945, the first head of government to publicly suggest that the freedom-fighter may noted have died in an air crash as he is commonly believed to have. Banerjee’s comments came soon after her government made public 64 classified files related to the freedom-fighter, who is said to have died on August 18, 1945 at Taihoku in Taiwan in an aeroplane crash. She said that her statement was based not on the files but on what she has read so far about Bose, who had raised the Indian National Army to conduct an armed struggle against the British.
CBI assigned to investigate Sheena Bora case
The Maharashtra government on Friday transferred the probe into Sheena Bora murder case to the Central Bureau of Investigation, explaining that would ensure that no state government officer is associated with the case. "Sheena Bora case is not a simple case of murder, but there are financial links to the murder," Maharashtra's additional chief secretary KP Bakshi said.
Indian fisherman killed off Gujarat
At least one Indian fisherman was killed in firing off the Gujarat coast on Friday, the Indian Coast Guard said, even as the local fishermen association blamed the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency for the attack. The firing took place near the International Maritime Boundary Line, Secretary of National Fishworkers' Forum, Manish Lodhari said.
Nitish will not attend Rahul's rally
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will not be attend Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's rally in West Champaran district on Saturday as he will be busy with ticket distribution. Bihar Congress President Ashok Choudhary said that they have received a communication that just like Rashtriya Janata Dal head Lalu Prasad, Kumar is occupied with selecting candidates and so would not be able to it make to the Ramnagar programme.
