Uttar Pradesh: Modi to meet with rickshaw pullers
Security preparations were in full swing in Varanasi on Thursday ahead of Prime Mini Narendra Modi's visit to his Lok Sabha constituency on Friday. This will be his third visit since assuming office. He is scheduled to launch power and road schemes and meet representatives of Uttar Pradesh's agitating contractual teachers union. He will also distribute cycle rickshaws and e-rickshaws to more than 600 people under the Jan Dhan Yojana scheme. Varanasi SSP Joginder Kumar said that 5,500 policemen and other security forces have been deployed.
West Bengal: CPI(M) demands inquiry against Trinamool MP
Senior Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader from West Bengal Mohammad Salim demanded an inquiry against the All India Trinamool Congress MP KD Singh for allegedly acquiring properties worth millions of rupees in the hill state. He also asked Himachal Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh to inquire into the misuse of public funds and into chit fund companies that bought huge chunks of land from poor farmers.
Odisha: Flash flood toll rises to two
One more person died on Thursday, raising the toll due to flash floods in Odisha to two, as rescue and relief operations were geared up. Continuous rains have affected 25,000 people in three districts. Three southern districts of Koraput, Kalahandi and Nabarangpur have been affected due to the flash floods caused due to a heavy downpour for the past three days, the authorities said.
Maharashtra: Nab the mastermind, says Pansare's family
After the arrest on Wednesday of Samir Gaikwad, a member of a fringe Hindutva group called the Sanatan Sanstha, relatives of slain rationalists Govind Pansare and Narendra Dabholkar demanded the police should now arrest the mastermind of the attacks. Gaikwad's arrest will expose the conspiracy behind the murders, the families said.
Tripura: Irani holds e-consultation with collectors
Ahead of her visit to the North East on Friday, Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani on Thursday held consultations with the district collectors of the region on the new national education policy. As part of her consultation process with the states, Irani visited Kolkata on September 11.
