Second operative to be captured in a month
A second Pakistani terrorist was caught in Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday within a month of the capture of Mohammad Naveed, the authorities said. He has been identified as 22-year-old Javed Ahmed from Muzaffargarh in Pakistan's Punjab province. Four of his companions were killed in a 20-hour-long gun battle in Baramulla in North Kashmir. "The arrest of yet another Pakistani terrorist strengthens our position," said Union Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju. "There remains little doubt about Pakistani involvement in propping up terror."

Taking a strong note of CCTV footage showing policemen vandalising cars, the Gujarat High Court on Thursday ordered the police commissioner to conduct a probe and submit a report within two weeks into allegations that policemen had opened fire in air and damaged property to create terror during the Patel community quota stir. "If police does so... what is the difference between rioters and protectors," asked the High Court. It was hearing a plea filed by a city-based lawyer Virat Popat and his colleague Tirth Dave, who alleged that around 40 police personnel had vandalised vehicles in their housing colony on Tuesday. The petitioners also submitted the CCTV footage of the incident.
One killed, eight injured in ceasefire violations
A civilian was killed and eight others were injured in a firing by Pakistani troops in the RS Pura sector of Jammu and Kashmir early on Friday morning. Pakistani troops allegedly used small arms and heavy mortar shelling to target several border posts in the RS Pura and Arnia sectors in Jammu. The firing started at 10 pm on Thursday and stopped around 3.30 am.There have been 52 violations of the border ceasefire agreement of 2003 by Pakistan in August and over 245 ceasefire violations this year.
Supreme Court suspends proceedings against Italian Marines
The trial of two Italian Marines Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone will not begin even four years after the incident as it is yet to be decided which country has the right to conduct the proceedings. They are accused of killing two fishermen off the Kerala coast on February 15, 2012 The Supreme Court on Wednesday suspended all proceedings in the case and adjourned the hearing to January 13, 2016, after the Centre and Italy informed the bench that the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea in Hamburg had directed both countries to suspend all court proceedings relating to the matter.
India buys Ambedkar's house in London
India on Thursday sealed the deal to acquire a three- storey building in London in which BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, had lived as a student in the 1920s. The building will be converted into an international memorial. Maharashtra's Minister for social justice and special assistance Raj Kumar Badole signed the contracts to buy the house at 10 King Henry's Road, in northwest London.
