Uttar Pradesh: Mulayam makes misogynist remarks yet again
Rape by four persons is not possible, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav told an audience in Lucknow on Wednesday. He said that while one man commits rape, four are named in the police case to settle scores. “Innocent persons must not be implicated and harassed," he said. "There are cases where a victim has accused four brothers of raping her. It is not practical.” Last year, Yadav had sparked outrage by stating that rapes occurred because "boys will be boys" and they make mistakes. Yadav added that the case in which two cousins in Badaun had allegedly been raped and murdered last year had been “blown out of proportion”.
Bihar: Four JD(U) legislators join BJP
Four rebel Janata Dal (United) MLAs joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday and criticised Nitish Kumar for forging ties with Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav. They announced the move in the presence of Union minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy and BJP's state chief Mangal Pandey at the BJP headquarters. The MLAs are Gyanendra Singh Gyanoo (Barh), Rajeshwar Raj (Karakat), Dinesh Prasad (Meenapur) and Suresh Chanchal (Sakra).
West Bengal: Mani Shankar Aiyar attacks Mamata
Senior Congress leader Mani Shankar Aiyar lashed out at West Bengal Chief Minister Banerjee on Wednesday for ditching Muslims by going along with Modi at the Centre. He asserted the need for unity of secular forces to counter the alliance between Narendra Modi and Mamata Banerjee. "We will request you to understand your power," Aiyer said. "Your power of one vote which can make or break governments. Why will you vote for TMC and Mamata Banerjee? They have not worked for your development. Rather Mamata Banerjee has ditched you."
Assam: Gogoi open for investigation in Louis Berger case
Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday said that he is ready to face any investigation related allegations that the US firm Louis Berger paid bribes to senior administration officials to obtain a contract for the the Guwahati drinking water supply project. He has admitted to signing the file to approve the Japan-funded water supply project in which Louis Berger was appointed as a consultant by the state government. After a US court said that Louis Berger paid bribes to officials to land the Guwahati project, the state government handed over the investigation to the state CID. "I will resign if my involvement is proved right,” Gogoi said.
Delhi: AAP criticises ACB chief
The Aam Aadmi Party government on Wednesday claimed before Delhi High Court that Anti Corruption Bureau chief MK Meena was not working in accordance with law and not allowing other officials to work either. It sought that its plea challenging the Centre's notification on appointing bureaucrats and on the powers of the Anti Corruption Bureau should be heard urgently. The court has given the Centre a week to file its replies to the sate government's applications.
