Bihar: Gaya, Muzaffarpur among the venues
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address three rallies in election-bound Bihar even before announcement of the dates for the assembly polls by the Election Commission, the Bharatiya Janata Party said on Friday. The first town chosen for Modi's rally was Muzaffarpur. Events are also scheduled in Gaya on August 9 and Saharsa on August 19. Bihar BJP President Mangal Pandey said that Modi was also tentatively scheduled to address a rally at Bhagalpur on August 30. The Prime Minister had addressed a rally in Muzzafarpur last week to launch the National Democratic Alliance's campaign for the elections.
Tamil Nadu: Gandhian dies at anti-liquor protest
Gandhian Sasi Perumal, 59, died while conducting a protest in front of a liquor shop in the Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu on Friday. Perumal climbed up a mobile phone tower and threatened to jump unless the district administration promised to close the state-administered Tasmac liquor shop. However, when the fire brigade went up the tower to rescue Perumal, he was found unconscious with a splatter of blood on his chest. He was rushed to a hospital where the doctors declared him dead on arrival. Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader MK Stalin demanded a thorough investigation into the Gandhian's death.
Delhi: Court to record evidence against Kejriwal
A Delhi court has fixed September 10 to record pre-summoning evidence in a criminal defamation complaint filed against state Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly referring to police officials with the slang word "thulla". The complaint was filed by Delhi police constable Harvinder, who is posted at the Govind Puri police station. Metropolitan Magistrate Anu Aggarwal summoned the Station House Officer and a head constable as complainant witnesses. Kejriwal has apologised for using the term, claiming that it had not been intended for honest personnel in the force.
Uttar Pradesh: HRD Ministry orders FIR into forged letter
The Union Human Resource Developmen Ministry on Friday directed an educational institute in Moradabad to file a First Information Report against unknown persons for duplicating HRD Minister Smriti Irani's signatures and forging the ministry's official letterhead. The incident came to light after the Institute of Foreign Trade and Management sent a communication to the HRD ministry on June 10 with a forged letter attached requesting the reinstatement of faculty members. The Institute's Pro Vice-Chancellor Mohit Dubey said that an FIR would be lodged in this connection by the end of the week.
Karnataka: Assembly passes two bill
The Karnataka Legislative Assembly on Friday passed two bills amending the land revenue act and transfer of teachers by voice note. The Karnataka Land Revenue (Amendment) Bill, 2015 aims to bring changes in the Karnataka Land Revenue Act 1964 to enhance the limit of regularisation of unauthorised constructions of residential units on government-owned land in rural areas. The Karnataka State Civil Services (Regulation of Transfer of Teachers) (Second Amendment) Bill, 2015 aims to provide the opportunity to transfer teachers appointed after May 4, 2005.
