It will be the bloodiest summer for a decade: Taliban
Suicide bombers hit a convoy of foreign military vehicles close to the US Embassy on Tuesday, killing two and wounding at least 17 people. Hours before, a truck bomb exploded at police headquarters in Helmand province's Lashkar Gah, killing at least two civilians. While no outfit has claimed responsibility for the attacks, the Taliban is widely suspected to be behind them. The terror outfit has vowed to make this year's annual summer offensive "the bloodiest for a decade".

Two women beheaded by ISIS
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has beheaded two women and crucified two men in a series of executions in Syria, a human rights monitor said on Tuesday. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed the incident took place in Syria's eastern province of Deir Ezzour. The terrorist organisation reportedly beheaded the women for sorcery while three others were executed on charges of banditry and drugs. The case marks the first known instance of ISIS beheading civilian women.

Man kills himself on Japan's bullet train
A man killed himself by setting himself ablaze on board a moving bullet train in Japan on Tuesday, leading to the death of another woman while injuring several others. Reports say the man doused himself in kerosene and sparked a cigarette lighter after the train had started moving. Eyewitnesses claim there was a blast which came from a toilet stall filling the train carriage with smoke and causing the train to stop. The man's still-burning body was reportedly found still burning after the train had stopped and passengers had left the train.

Christie declares US presidential bid
New Jersey state Governor Chris Christie announced his intention to run for President of the United States in the upcoming 2016 elections on the Republican ticket on Tuesday. Claiming that "strength and authority and decision-making" were needed in the Oval Office, Christie also attacked other Republican contenders such as Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio for lacking the experience required to run a state office. Christie is the fourteenth major contender from the Republican party this year.

Over 1,000 escape from prison in Yemen
In one of the biggest prison breaks in Yemen, around 1,200 prisoners escaped from a jail in the city of Taiz on Tuesday, officials said. The prisoners managed to escape while two militias were exchanging fire. According to reports, the escapees also included members from the terror group al Qaeda. Yemen is currently being subjected to a civil war as Shia Houthi forces loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh and forces loyal to ousted President Mansour Abd-Rahman Hadi.
