In the run-up to the D-Day, the government is going all out to convince people from around the planet to participate in a spectacle that it hopes will create a world record: staging the largest yoga session at a single venue. As a result, practitioners from some 100 countries are expected to be among the 40,000 people who will hopefully throng Rajpath to perform asanas, with the Prime Minister himself leading the exercise.
In addition to his full council of ministers, all Members of Parliament have been invited. Special invitations being extended to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, party vice president Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
To build momentum on social media, Modi has taken the lead in educating social media users about the benefits of yoga, using Facebook and Twitter. He's even been trying to demonstrate asanas with the help of videos and infographics.
As the World Yoga Day approaches, these updates are expected to get only more frequent. Here’s your guide to yoga from the prime minister himself.
