From musical to melodramatic, video selfies have taken over the internet and it’s all thanks to Dubsmash. The mobile app allows users to record videos of themselves over existing audio tracks. Dubsmashers are lip syncing their favourite songs and movie lines and sharing them on social media, and they just can’t seem to get enough.

The app has been a smash hit ever since November, when founders Jonas Drüppel, Roland Grenke and Daniel Taschik launched it in their home country Germany. It became the number one mobile app there in just seven days. Dubsmash has been downloaded more than 20 million times and in just 30 days last month, Dubsmash got 4.54 lakh mentions on Twitter, say news reports.

Dubsmash has gone viral in India too, with people revelling in the chance to sound like Amitabh Bachchan or Rajinikanth, adding their own interpretations, props, supporting casts and theatrics to seconds-long videos with hilarious results. Here are some carefully-planned Dubsmash videos, including an iconic Gabbar Singh dialogue from Sholay, and absolutely ridiculous ones from cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna.
