What do you get when a 1970s American rock classic meets oriental rhythms and a fusion of classical Odissi and belly dance? In 2013, Delhi-based Banjara School of Dance experimented with the mix and emerged with some stunning results.
Meher Malik and Nitisha Nanda, the choreographers of the Banjara School, adapted the Eagles' 1977 superhit Hotel California to Indian rhythms and set it as the background score for a unique, sensual Odissi-belly dance fusion production. Malik is also the founder of the dance school, which was propelled to fame after its troupes participated on reality TV show Just Dance.
Here's a video of Banjara's memorable Hotel California adaptation, made as a part of its Jashn-e-Banjara festival.
