First came a list of 28 words that the censor board wanted banned from all movies.  It included "Bombay", a word that singer Mihir Joshi was forced to bleep out of a music video last month. Naturally, the list was criticised by one and all.

Several of these words featured in the "roast" event organised by the All India Bakchod comedy group in January, a YouTube video of which had outraged conservative groups, leading to obscenity charges against 14 people ‒ including two prominent actresses, Deepika Padukone and Alia Bhatt, who were in the audience and were depicted laughing at the jokes.

Even though the controversial list has been put on hold (for now), the response was sharp, with videos mocking and parodying those very guidelines.

Popular comedian Vir Das’ s Weirdass Comedy has come up with an ode to the board, explaining their reasons in these words:
After the numerous FIR's filed against comedians, we have realised that comedy is the biggest problem facing poverty-stricken and corruption-infested India.

Here's a song that would be technically approved by the all-knowing Censor Board.

Before that, it was the turn of SnortEP  to come up with a parody of a parody in support of AIB, pointing out the obvious: that it was all in fun and that there are other bigger tragedies that need to be focussed on.  That the video came with its own disclaimer tells its own tale:

Earlier, for Valentine's Day, Sahil Shah of the East India Comedy had a simple message to "just sit at home" as he showcased his own "Indian government approved" trailer of Fifty Shades of Grey:

Another recently released video, starring film writer and Sulemani Keeda hero Mayank Tewari, said it was their "way to announce that the 'Censor Board' itself is now the most profane insult we can imagine.  Do feel free to spread the (swear) word."

And this video, of course, was ahead of its times, produced two years ago by Auteur Mark Videos.
