More than Indian batting or Pakistani bowling at Adelaide in a World Cup match that is expected to be watched by over one billion people, the biggest talking point on social media was actor Amitabh Bachchan and his Hindi commentary.
The Bollywood star is on Star Sports, doing Hindi commentary alongside former players Aakash Chopra and Shoaib Akthar, as part of promotional activities for his latest movie Shamitabh that released last weekend.
In the lead-up to the match, various ads had shown commentators speaking into a mic, but the voice was the most famous baritone in the industry, from Bachchan's character in the movie.
Bachchan had reportedly taken tips from veteran commentators Harsha Bhogle, and cricketing legend Kapil Dev. After 45 years in Bollywood, Bachchan's fans expected him to come out firing, but he seems to have misfired from the very first ball.
Twitter had loads of of fun slaying Mr. Bachchan. Good for the star that he was commentating till the 7th over of the first innings of the match.
But things got personal and ugly, as they tend to do on Twitter, with some of the jokes extended to his son, Abhishek Bachchan as well.

Amitabh's commentary is worse than Doordarshan.

Amitabh is speaking too much. Perhaps he's being paid at the rate of words per minute. — Moon (@moonsez) February 15, 2015

What a tragedy. After 45 years in the film industry Amitabh Bachchan is honored by being made to partner Arun Lal in the commentary box.

So I thought after taking Amitabh Bachchan, Hindi commentary will sound like recitation of Agneepath. #IndvsPak #WorldCup2015 — Lollicup (@willowwittch) February 15, 2015
Amitabh Bachchan is our lucky charm for Ind-Pak match. Last time he did commentary, India won the match & saved 3 guna lagaan in Champanair. — Branded Bawi (@ZeniaIrani) February 15, 2015
Waiting for Amitabh Bachchan to say something more stupid than Mandira Bedi managed.

Dear Star Sports, I can think of at least 1747173 things that impact my life more than Amitabh Bachchan doing cricket commentary.

When Gavaskar & Amitabh commentate at the same time They should play 'Daddy mujhse bola tu galti hai meri' as the background music #IndvsPak — HÖwYÖuDÖin' (@Youteecrush) February 15, 2015

Amitabh Bachchan is doing the commentary. See, this is what happen when your son is Abhishek Bachchan. #IndvsPak — Kc (@FakingAround) February 15, 2015
Abhishek Bachchan could've been more dangerous in commentary box, Pakistanis are always scared of Drona, I mean drone attack.

Commentary Was The Second Mistake Amitabh Bachchan Ever Did. First Being Abhishek Bachchan. #IndvsPak #PakvsInd #IndWins #CWC15
— Sir Ravindra Jadeja (@SirJadeja) February 15, 2015
Amitabh Bachchan's commentary has been like Abhishek's career so far, he says something clever once in a while but it is mostly just crap.
