50 women still critical, police file case against surgeon
Eleven women have died and at least 50 more are reported to be in critical condition after doctors allegedly botched operations at a sterilisation camp organised by the Chhattisgarh government in Bilaspur district. These women had surgeries on Saturday as part of an annual family planning camp organised by the state government. On Monday, they began complaining of pain and fever, and eight of them had died by the evening. The camp was held at Takhatpur in Bilaspur, the home district of State Health Minister Amar Agarwal. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Raman Singh suspended four top health officials over the deaths. A police complaint was also lodged against the surgeon, who had performed laparoscopic sterilisation operations on 83 women within the span of five hours on Saturday.
Centre sets LPG subsidy cap at Rs 20 per kg
The central government has capped the budget subsidy for cooking gas at Rs 20 a kg, according to The Hindu. As things stand, consumers will not be hit by any increase in prices. But if international rates were to rise, as they usually do in the winter, the government will either pass on the increase to consumers or it will ask oil companies to bear the burden. "With the per-kg budget subsidy fixed, I will now push the oil companies to ensure it reaches poor people who need the subsidy more but are unable to afford the bigger cylinders," Union Oil and Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said.
BJP expected to sail through trust vote in Maharashtra assembly with NCP's support
The Bharatiya Janata Party-led minority government is expected to pass the trust vote in the Maharashtra assembly on Wednesday with support from the Nationalist Congress Party. "NCP legislators will either remain absent during the trust vote or support BJP," said a BJP strategist. The NCP, however, has reportedly issued a one-line whip asking all its legislators to vote in favour of the BJP-led government and not abstain from the confidence motion. The BJP expects no support from the Shiv Sena, after both sides failed to reach an agreement till late on Tuesday. The trust vote will test the BJP's numbers in the assembly, where it is just short of a majority.

The central government is moving towards a Rs 113,000-crore plan that aims to provide digital access to all citizens, especially those from the rural areas, according to Hindustan Times. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's "Digital India" initiative seeks to move everything online, from education to the delivery of public services. Under the first phase of the project, the Centre aims to expand internet coverage to 250,000 villages by 2017, from the existing 130,000.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held bilateral talks with Myanmar President U Thein Se in the capital city of Nay Pyi Taw, before he attends the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit on November 12. The talks revolved around greater engagement between the two nations in the areas of trade and commerce. Seeking to improve trade connectivity, both sides reviewed the progress of major connectivity projects between the two countries, including the India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway and the Kaladan transport project. The latter project seeks to connect the eastern Indian port of Kolkata with Sittwe port in Myanmar by sea.
