From the television reports, it would seem like Prime Minister Narendra Modi is universally loved by Indian-Americans. But despite his prominent well-wishers, it isn't as if he lacks critics. One group known as the South Asia Solidarity Initiative has taken to the internet to amass a photographic counter-narrative of dissenting diaspora voices.
The photo-blog, called “Diaspora Says No to Modi”, features portraits of NRIs holding signboards with messages to Modi that range from condemning his alleged role in the 2002 Gujarat riots and the growth of Hindu nationalism, as well as the state of the environment in India today.
