Whistleblower and former USA spy agency contractor was awarded the Right Livelihood Honorary Prize last week for his work in exposing the US government's mass surveillance programmes. The Swedish award, also referred to as the "alternate Nobel prize", honoured Snowden for his “courage and skill in revealing the unprecedented extent of state surveillance violating basic democratic processes and constitutional rights”. The Stockholm-based award foundation said it would fund legal support for Snowden, who is currently residing in Russia after fleeing from US.
