American photographer Brandon Stanton, who became an internet sensation with his blog Humans of New York and the subsequent Facebook page, arrived in India this week as part of a world tour in partnership with the United Nations. India's Facebook users, enthusiastically welcoming the popular photographer, have been sharing his recent photographs from Jammu.
Stanton, a former bond trader, began pursuing his interest in street photography in 2010. Soon his portraits of New York's citizens coupled with snippets of conversation with them garnered him a huge fan following far beyond New York. Moving away from the busy city streets, Stanton has now made his project a global one. He will be visiting 11 countries over 50 day to promote the UN's Millennium Development Goals.
In this video, he talks about his project and how he strikes a conversation with his subjects.
