Telangana: Bandh in state for government survey on August 19
The Telangana government's decision to conduct an Intensive household survey to determine beneficiaries of state programmes has created panic among Telugu people who work outside the state. They are afraid that if they don't take part in the survey, they will cease to be counted as residents of Telangana. Panic has spread despite a Hyderabad High Court order which said that taking part in the survey was not mandatory.

Pravin Manjhi, the son of Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manhji, was caught visiting a hotel room in Bodh Gaya with lady police constable from the Bihar military police on Thursday. The police have said that this was not the first time he had booked a hotel room with the same woman. On this occasion, the chief minister's son was confronted in full public view by hotel authorities for not paying dues worth Rs 6,000. Opposition leaders have called for the Chief Minister's resignation.

At the state Independence Day function in Udaipur on Friday, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje announced that the government would set up bank accounts for 1.5 crore families under the woman's name. The state government has earmarked Rs 600 crore for the "Bhamashah scheme". Monetary benefits from the state will be directly credited into these accounts.
Kerala: School drops 'Vande Mantaram' from I-Day function
A private school in Kollam, 65 kilometers away from the state capital of Thiruvananthapuram, dropped the national song and "namaste" gesture for a dance routine on Friday, after receiving threats from a religious outfit. According to party workers from the Social Democratic Party of India, who threatened to disrupt the Independence Day function at TKM Centenary school, both Vande Mataram and "namaste" were against the religious beliefs of a particular community.
Jharkhand: Governor faints during Independence Day function
Governor Syed Ahemed fainted while addressing the Independence Day function held at Dumka on Friday. He was rushed to a hospital immediately. Doctors said that the Governor was suffering from fluctuations in his blood pressure.
