Delhi University on Tuesday officially opened its doors to the transgender community by offering them post-graduate courses in the current academic year. Graduate courses will be offered in the next academic year of 2015-16. Members of the third gender option have been asked to apply under the Other Backward Classes quota.
Gujarat: Government refuses to furnish information on state chief minister’s assets
he Gujarat government has refused to entertain a Right to Information query seeking information on the assets and liabilities gathered by the Chief Minister and her council of ministers in the past five years. The government on Tuesday claimed that such information was not in the “larger public interest”. The petitioner from Mumbai, Anil Galgali, also sought information on action taken by the chief minister against ministers who refuse to declare their assets.

Samajwadi Party leader Mulalyam Singh Yadav on Wednesday said that he was willing to enter into an alliance with long-standing rival Mayawati of the Bhaujan Samaj Party in Uttar Pradesh if Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav brokered the deal. Two days before, the RJD chief urged both political rivals in Uttar Pradesh to form a “grand alliance” against the Bharitiya Janata Party. By-polls for 12 assembly seats are scheduled to take place in the next few months.
Andhra Pradesh: Government picks Vijaywada as ad hoc capital
The state government has decided to set up its ad hoc capital in Vijaywada until key infrastructure for a new capital is completed. On Tuesday, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu asked for six key departments to be transferred to Vijaywada over the next few months.
Maharashtra: Bombay High Court approves increase in auto and taxi fares
The Bombay High Court on Tuesday allowed the state government to revise minimum fares of taxis and auto rickshaws to Rs 21 and Rs 17 respectively. Earlier, minimum fares for taxis and auto rickshaws stood at Rs 19 and Rs 15 respectively. However the new fares will only come into effect if vehicle owners recalibrate their electronic meters.
