The death of Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams, who apparently committed suicide on Monday, elicited condolences from a range of fans, including US President Barack Obama and the characters on the children's TV show Sesame Street.
While the versatile actor had audiences in splits with his physical comedy, silly faces and impressions on screen, his recording career was often overshadowed. In fact, he won his first Grammy in 1979 for Reality...What a Concept, in the category for best comedy recording. He would win three more Grammys in the same category for A Night At The Met (1987), Good Morning, Vietnam (1988), and Robin Williams – Live 2002.
In 1988, his album Pecos Bill won a Grammy for best recording for children.
Here's a sample of some of those classic performances.
Popeye (1980)
On the soundtrack of Popeye, Williams sings as the mumbling sailor man himself.
Robin Williams Live at the Met (1987)
The comedian charms the famed New York venue.
Live on Broadway (2002)
A stand-up performance that has the audience cheering every sentence.
