As search operations continued on Wednesday for the bodies of students from Hyderabad who were washed away in a flash flood in the river Beas while on trip in Himachal Pradesh, footage of the tragedy shot by a local has come to light.

Twenty four students who were taking photos in what they thought was a shallow stream were drowned as the water levels of the river rose rapidly, as the Larji hydel plant upstream released its holdings, seemingly without warning.

Five bodies have been recovered so far.

Flash floods of this sort are inherent to the design of run-of-river hydroelectricity projects, as Scroll.in reported on Tuesday.
