As visitors open the Samajwadi Party's website, they are greeted with a rousing campaign song titled, "Man Se Hain Mulayam Aur Irade Loha Hai". Extolling the virtues of the party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, the tune says that the man with a soft heart but a will of iron has been devoted to the service of others since childhood. It also lists some of Yadav's heroes: Ram Manohar Lohia, JB Kriplani and Charan Singh.
The song, which can be downloaded from the party's site as a zip file, is sung by Bollywood playback singer Javed Ali and has lyrics by former Rajya Sabha MP Udai Pratap Singh. If it sounds familiar, it's because it adapts the melody of "We Didn't Start the Fire", a hit released by the US pop star Billy Joel in 1989.
The site also allows fans to download the SP's official campaign song. It's called "Ao Milkar Desh Banaye" and features the voice of Mulayam's daughter-in-law, Aparna.
