The Indian Premier League's player auction started on Wednesday, under the shadow of the latest controversy to hit the troubled but profitable tournament.
On Monday, Gurunath Meiyappan, son-in-law of Board of Control for Cricket in India president N Srinivasan's son-in-law, was indicted by a Supreme Court panel for match-fixing and leaking sensitive information. He was associated with the Chennai Super Kings
But the Super Kings aren't alone. Except for the Delhi Daredevils and the Sunrisers Hyderabad, all the teams in the IPL have been tainted by scandal. Here's a list of the allegations, accusations and controversies in which the various teams have been involved.
1) Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings Eleven
One of the earliest (and probably least serious) IPL controversies occurred in the 2008 edition of the tournament, when Mumbai Indians player Harbhajan Singh slapped S Sreesanth of the Punjab team after the Mumbai side lost for the third time in a row.
In 2013, Shalabh Srivastava of the Punjab Kings Eleven was suspended from the IPL after a sting operation implicated him in spot-fixing.
2) Royal Challengers Bangalore
Australian batsman Luke Pomersbach of the RCB was arrested by the Delhi police for allegedly molesting an American woman.
3) Kochi Tuskers Kerala
This team was kicked out of the IPL after its first year, in 2011, for not paying the annual fee.
4) Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR was the target of widespread derision when a Twitter user calling himself fakeiplplayer tweeted about the petty politics in the team during the 2009 edition of the IPL. In 2012, its owner, Shah Rukh Khan was banned from entering Wankhede Stadium for five years after a heated argument with a staff member at the venue.
5) Rajasthan Royals
Former RR captain Shane Warne was fined US$50,000 for blaming Sanjay Dixit, the secretary of the Rajasthan Cricket Association, for his team's loss to the Chennai Super Kings. On 16 May 2013, three team members, Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila, were arrested by Delhi police on charges of spot-fixing.
6) Pune Warriors
Batsman Mohnish Mishra of the team was suspended after a news channel aired a sting operation that accused him of spot-fixing. In 2013, the team itself withdrew from the IPL after it failed to pay the full franchise fee for the year.
7) Deccan Chargers
One of the team's players, TP Sudhindra, was implicated by the same sting operation that caught Mohnish Mishra and Shalabh Srivastava.
