Last month, memes about the legendary honesty of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and actor Alok Nath's screen 'sanskaar' went viral. But Indian netizens have been creating memes for some years now, even if you haven't actually seen them.

A meme refers to a series of jokes that use the same image, even as the text changes. Here are five Indian memes that didn't get the attention they deserved.

1) Typical Indian Father

Strict, conservative and always wants his son or daughter to do engineering. This meme's glowering dad is a parody of the Indian father who tells his son that he is free to choose any subject as long as it's a branch of engineering.

2) The perils of navigating the Indian Railways website

In a scene taken from the Tamil film classic, 'Thillana Mohanambal', legendary Tamil actor Shivaji Ganesan expresses the feelings of many users trying to buy railway tickets.

3) Smart Iyer Boy

Thrifty, studious and a topper, usually in science or engineering, Smart Iyer Boy is in many ways a dream come true to the Typical Indian Dad, but not the best bet for a date. Billmonk was an online social billing site popular among students to keep track of loans and shared bills.

4) Doubtmaster Senthil

Tamil comedian Senthil was a mainstay of Tamil films from the '80s and '90s, along with actor Goundermani. Senthil would play the duffer to Goundermani's worldly-wise character, and like in most such acts, got the last laugh. In his online avatar, he is the eternal thinker, pondering such deep questions as 'If you lose your left arm, is your right arm left?'

5) PJ Maharaj

Some of the jokes fall firmly in the 'so bad it's good' category.
