Banibrata Mahanta has won the 2025 Muse India Translation Award for translating Kusum Khemani’s novel Lavanyadevi from the Hindi. He will receive a cash prize of Rs 25,000. The winner was picked from 103 entries from 18 Indian languages.
Commendation Certificates were given to the following translators
V Ramaswamy for The Last Bench, by Adhir Biswas from the Bengali
Vidya Pai for The Bitter Fruit Tree and Other Stories, by Prakash Parienkar from the Konkani
Navdeep Suri for A Game of Fire, by Nanak Singh, from the Punjabi
Malini Seshadri for Kurinji Malar, by Na Parthasarathy, from the Tamil
The panel of 12 judges was chaired by a two-member jury consisting of Professor Sachidananda Mohanty and Professor Sukrita Paul Kumar.
