The Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) is ready to hold state’s first Kerala Administrative Service (KAS) examination. The Commission is still in the stage of working out the logistics and a notification to this effect is expected to be released soon.

The Hindu reports that PSC chairman M.K. Sakeer has said that the notification for the examination would be come out soon after the syllabus and eligibility criteria for the examination have been finalised. He added that the KAS exam will enable many qualified youth from the State to enter Class I jobs in the government sector.

In another development, The Hindu reports that Kerala PSC will conduct more online examinations under its belt. Addressing a press conference during the opening of an e-office in Kozhikode, M.K. Sakeer said that with the help of the state government’s Department of Information Technology and C-DIT, the project to conduct more exams online will be undertaken.

He said, “As of now, we have the facility for only 3,600 people to attend an examination online. With the IT labs added to the facility, we can cater to at least 40,000 candidates at the same time.”

Most of the exams conducted by the Kerala PSC have less than 40,000 applications and thus all those exams will be moved online eventually. Only exams like the LDC, LGS and police constable tests have around one lakh applicants.

Sakeer also highlighted the fact that the Kerala PSC has more responsibilities than selection commissions from other states that conduct Class I jobs. He said, “Kerala PSC is handling the responsibilities of around 12 recruitment boards in other States. We have recently added selection of non-teaching staff in universities and recruitment of managers in district banks to the list.”
