All those nasty trolls who pass instant judgement on movie trailers are already calling the new Anurag Basu movie Jagga Jasoos a mish-mash of Ace Ventura, Romancing the Stone, Steven Spielberg’s Indiana Jones movies, and the Tintin comics. Was the ostrich race in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time better? And did these unforgiving trolls spot a reference to Emir Kusturica’s Arizona Dream?
Basu’s dream project, about a detective who travels to the far corners of the earth in search of his father, has been delayed for several months over budget over-runs, the alleged break-up of off-screen lovers Kapoor and Kaif, and reported re-shoots. Neither star speaks in the trailer, and the focus therefore is on Ravi Varman’s superlative and international-quality visuals of madcap adventures in fantastical places. The movie will be released on April 7, 2017.
