Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling-starrer La La Land bagged seven Golden Globe nominations on Monday, including those for best picture, best director and best actor. Directed by Damien Chazelle, the production is a major contender in the comedy/musical category.

Meryl Streep has been announced the winner of the Cecil B DeMille Award for lifetime achievement in the film industry. President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association Lorenzo Soria said, “She [Streep] is a trailblazer, having paved the way for women in television, film and stage. For shattering gender and age barriers, all with finesse and grace, the HFPA is humbled to bestow this honor upon her.”

The list released by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association puts Manchester By The Sea, Moonlight, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or Highwater and Lion in the competition for the best movie, drama awards. Deadpool picked up two surprise nominations for actor Ryan Reynolds and another for best motion picture comedy, The Washington Post reported.

In the television section, The People v OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, led with five nominations, including for best limited series or TV movie. It will compete with American Crime, The Dresser, The Night Manager and The Night Of.

Casey Affleck, Joel Edgerton, Andrew Garfield, Viggo Mortensen and Denzel Washington will compete for the best actor in a motion picture drama category, while Amy Adams, Jessica Chastain, Isabelle Huppert, Ruth Negga and Natalie Portman will vie for best actress in the same category.

In the animated feature section, Kubo and the Two Strings, Moana, My Life as a Zucchini, Sing, Zootopia and Trolls are in the ring.

The awards ceremony will be hosted by comedian Jimmy Fallon on January 8 and aired on NBC.
