The first fog of winter settled over Delhi and the National Capital Region on Wednesday morning. Fog and low visibility was also reported from other parts of northern India, including in Chandigarh, Haryana, Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, according to The Times of India.
In a weather warning issued on Tuesday, the Indian Meteorological Department said shallow to moderate levels of fog would cover parts of western Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Sikkim from Wednesday. The IMD said the weather was also likely to last for another six days.
Flight operations at airports in Delhi and Lucknow have been affected because of poor visibility, and at least 13 flights have been delayed. The low visibility has also impacted the movement of traffic on roads and highways. Temperatures in the national capital have also dropped because of the weather, and a depression in the Bay of Bengal that affects wind patterns.
The minimum temperature recorded in the region on Wednesday was 11°C, The Indian Express reported. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 28°C, according to the report.
