Indian pair Pranaav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy succumbed to Malaysia’s Goh Soon Huat and Shevon Jemie Lai 21-13, 18-21, 16-21 in the mixed doubles tournament at the Scottish Open Grand Prix final on Sunday. The Chopra-Reddy pair took the first game with a convincing win before their opponents took the next two with a series of point-bursts.
Chopra and Reddy went off to a flying start in the first game, getting to a 4-0 lead before the Malaysians forged a comeback. The top seeds, though, took the first game with little fuss and took that momentum into the second game too, marching to a 6-3 lead.
Huat and Lai were terrific after the interval and took the game away from the Indians, overturning the deficit to take a 19-16 lead in the second game. Chopra and Reddy picked up a couple of points from there but the Huat and Lai combination closed down the game before the Indian duo got a sniff.
The deciding game saw Indians relinquish an even bigger lead after racing to a 6-1 lead. However, Huat and Lai clinched the title after amassing nine consecutive points from 12-16 down as Chopra and Reddy fell short of replicating their efforts from the Brazil Grand Prix in September, which they won.
