India looked to make up for their lacklustre form by stepping it up in the second Test against England on Thursday. Virat Kohli (151 not out) and Cheteshwar Pujara’s (119) bailing their side out from a precarious 22/2 on the first day. The team finished the day at 317/4 in front of a restive crowd at Visakhapatnam, the newest venue in the country for Test matches.

After Kohli won the toss and opted to bat, the visitors took the early advantage, sending KL Rahul and Murali Vijay off early. Pujara and Kohli, however, played fluent shots to put the pressure back on England.

After a terrific display in the first Test, the England spinners were appeared to lose their sting. Only pace spearhead James Anderson troubled the batsmen, taking the wickets of Vijay, Pujara, and Ajinkya Rahane late in the day.

Pujara was dismissed in the final session of the day’s play after scoring his 10th ton, his third in as many matches. Kohli continued to pile on the runs and crossed the 150 mark.
