If Economic Secretary Shaktikanta Das is to be believed, the reason for long queues at banks are people making return visits to exchange more cash. So, the government decided to use indelible ink – starting Wednesday in major cities – to ensure that people can’t exchange money more than once, just as they can’t voye more than once.
Trouble is, that the indelible ink used in India is easily removable is no secret. The most popular method, which involves using matchsticks to rub out the mark, is said to work in ten minutes. Multiple videos (above and below) exist on the internet showing different ways to go about it.
So well-known is the fact that indelible ink does not work that Nationalist Congress Party Sharad Pawar had actually asked party members to vote twice after wiping off the indelible ink.
