United States President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday announced that he will deport as many as three million undocumented immigrants from the country upon assuming office. “What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers...out of our country or we are going to incarcerate,” he said in an interview on CBS News’ 60 minutes. “They’re here illegally.”

The Republican also reiterated his promise to build a wall along the US-Mexico border, saying fencing could be part of the project. This was among the several controversial plans he had said he would undertake during this fight to reach the White House. ”We are going to secure our border,” the real estate tycoon said. “I’m very good at this, it’s called construction.”

When questioned about reports of harassment faced by Muslims, African-Americans and Latin Americans in the country, Trump said, “ I am so saddened to hear that. If it helps. I will say this, and I will say right to the cameras: Stop it,” PTI reported. The president-elect dismissed protests across the country citing the participation of “professional protestors".

Stating that he was going to “bring the country together”, Trump said the reason why people were demonstrating against him was because “they don’t know me”.

In the US presidential elections on November 8, Trump defeated his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the electoral college, but he had lost to her in the popular vote. While the Republican had vowed to be the “president for all Americans”, there were protests across the country after the results were declared.
