India’s Aditi Ashok became the first Indian woman to win a Ladies European Tour event by winning the Women’s Indian Open in Gurgaon on Sunday.
Carrying a two-strike overnight lead, Ashok shot a 1-under 72 in the final round, taking her total score to 3-under 213, one stroke clear of Brittany Lincicome (USA) and Belen Mozo (Spain), who finished tied second. Ashok needed a birdie or better on the final hole to avoid a three-way tie.
She held her nerves to secure the win and make history. Other Indians in the fray were Vani Kapoor, who finished with an overall score of 9-over 225. Amandeep Drall, Diksha Dagar and Gaurika Bishnoi also finished tied-34, tied-44 and tied-55 respectively.
