Retired police dog, Caesar, who was hailed for his good work during the Mumbai terror attacks in 2008 died in a farmhouse in Virar on Thursday. The Labrador retired from police service in 2013, and he was adopted by animal lover Fizzah Shah, along with three other police dogs – Max, Sultan and Tiger. All four dogs were engaged in the 26/11 operations. He was the last one.

Shah said, “Although suffering from arthritis, Caesar was in good health until few months ago after the death of his fellow companion Tiger. He displayed signs of depression after Tiger’s demise and had to be hospitalised.” Caesar started training when he was six months old, after which he was inducted into the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad, The Hindu reported.

Trainer Santosh Bhogle said, Caesar was responsible for detecting hand grenades and RDX at Nariman House and at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.” The Mumbai Police paid homage to the dog. Mumbai Police commissioner D.D. Padsalgikar said, “The brave, alert and efficient Caesar will be remembered fondly for his services. An emotional moment for all of us.”
