Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton resumed her campaign on Thursday after taking four days off to recover from pneumonia – a hiatus that was subjected to an unprecedented amount of international scrutiny. Clinton addressed students at the University of North Carolina, saying ”It’s important to sit with your thoughts every now and again and this helped me to reflect on what this campaign is all about.”
Clinton joked, “I’m not great at taking it easy under even normal circumstances, but with just two months until Election Day, sitting at home was pretty much the last place I wanted to be… even I had to admit that maybe a few days of rest would do me good.” The United States presidential elections will be held on November 8.
Clinton was taken ill at an appearance in Lower Manhattan on September 11, and had to be escorted off stage. Since then, her Republican rival Donald Trump has caught up with her in opinion polls. According to Reuters, Trump has drawn even with Clinton, and might even be slightly ahead.
The controversial businessman has toned down the tenor of his otherwise freewheeling campaign, sticking to the script at an event at the New York Economic Club on Thursday. Trump proposed a set of tax cuts, saying they would push the US economy to a growth rate of 3.5%.
